CONCERT WORKS
Exultation (2001)
for Organ
"How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts!
My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. ...
Blessed are those who dwell in Your house;
they will still be praising you, Selah"
from Psalm 84
To me the opening of Psalm 84 invokes a tremendous image: a magnificent sacred space, bathed in light and, in the original sense of the word, awesome to behold. The music of Exultation for me is related to the sensation (which comes in mindful moments of the spirit) of a connection with the tremendous powers of life that put our smallness in perspective while infusing it (or blessing it) with a sense of great and beautiful unconditional worth.
