Information:
This new workshop for young composers (ages 14-19) is intended to give young composers the opportunity to hear their music, learn about technique, and meet other young New Mexican composers! The workshop will be led by members of the composition faculty at UNM: Professors Peter Gilbert, Jose-Luis Hurtado and Karola Obermueller.
Reading:
The workshop will also feature a reading session for the attending composers' music with pianist Kristin Ditlow. Composers interested in having a work read by Prof. Ditlow are encouraged to submit it ahead of time as a PDF. One score per composer will be accepted. Scores may be hand written or done with computer software but in all cases the music must be clearly legible.
Composers with questions or piano pieces to submit are encouraged to contact Prof. Peter Gilbert by email (pgilb@unm.edu).

Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I need to have a finished piano piece to participate in the workshop? No! The reading session is only a part of the workshop and you don't have to have a piece for the reading to get something out of it. We'll use the pieces we have as a way to start conversations about composing that will be relevant for everyone. Also, if you have a partially finished piece we can consider that for the reading as well.
Do I need to have composition experience to participate in the workshop? No! The workshop is for all young musicians who are interested in composing at all levels of experience.
