"I was surrounded by people who just loved music and loved talking about it.
This atmosphere changed my whole perspective on music and was a blast."

"The student body at the YCP was fantastic.
I felt challenged and intellectually stimulated on a regular basis."

"I thought that the group of students was wonderful. We had a nice range of ages and levels.
Everyone was very supportive of other students and we worked together to learn more."

"Being with the other students, I learned a lot about composing through sharing opinions,
hearing each other's pieces, and just talking about music in general."

"Being with the other students was AMAZING. It's so weird to be surrounded by people
who all love the same thing you do, and if you hum a melody randomly or if you're listening to music
and just start playing it on piano, no one thinks it's crazy. I think the other students were
one of the best parts of YCP and they definitely added to my learning.."

"The discussions that we made during our free time were intriguing and helped
in understanding how my peers think about and compose music."

"WOW!! It was an eye-opener to see that many good musicians my own age in one place.
In an atmosphere with that many musical people everything they say and do rubs off on you
and your musicality. It pushes you."

The YCP Community At the YCP we feel that the sense of community is very important and very rewarding. For some students being around other composers is a rare opportunity. But no matter what your community at home, YCP students have found that being immersed in an intensive training program with other gifted composers who are all focused on developing their musical skills is an exciting and inspiring experience. YCP students have come states and provinces ranging from Maryland to Wyoming. and they are as diverse stylistically as they are geographically. Having many different musical tastes and many differing points of view makes for good discussions and a more ear-opening experience for everyone. Students are always encouraged to voice their honest opinions and to do so respectfully of their peers. When we recognize that we are all pursuing the same goal, improving our own musicianship, diversity does not inhibit camaraderie.
