Discussions
"Everybody brought something to the table in terms of sharing as a class and learning from each other."

" The discussions were very helpful...they helped me understand how people get their ideas, and how to advance my inner ear."

"The level of discussion was great."

"I found that hearing the approaches that different composers take to their craft gave me ideas about ways that I can pursue composition."

"A nice way to close off the day that also gave me a better understanding of what it would be like to be in the composing profession."

"I was very impressed with the amount of student participation in the evening discussions--it made the discussion much more geared towards the desires of the students, which was good."

"I loved evening discussions. I felt every question raised was thoughtful and some were very outside-the-box! The answers were real and extremely relevant musical knowledge.every composer and musician would like to know. I liked the way that the faculty really gave everybody a chance to discuss and share their opinions and ideas. I couldnąt find discussions like this anywhere else on this planet."

Evening Discussion Sessions The YCP day concludes with a round-table group discussion of topics specifically of interest to young composers. The discussions have covered a variety of interesting topics:

  • Generating Ideas
  • Developing Your Inner Ear
  • Continuing with Composition / Professional Development
  • Getting Performances of Your Works
