Hearing the Cleveland Orchestra

"This was absolutely amazing!"

"One of my favorite parts of camp was getting to listen to the orchestra. Hearing them play the music that I had already been acquainted with earlier that week allowed me to really key in on all the different things that were going on."

"Wow. Excellent."

"It's fun to watch the music and the instrumentalists at the same time and see how it comes together. It's also helpful to see how you work with an orchestra as a conductor."

Cleveland Orchestra Rehearsal Through CIM's special relationship with the Cleveland Orchestra, students of the YCP have the rare and special privilege to visit historic Severence Hall and watch a rehearsal of the Cleveland Orchestra. We discuss works coming up in rehearsal to help students gain familiarity with the repertoire and then bring scores to rehearsal with us.

Principal Trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra, Michael Sachs, speaks to YCP students about life as an orchestral musician.

Repertoire heard in rehearsal with Cleveland Orchestra:

  • Gustave Holst: The Planets
  • Richard Strauss: Also Sprach Zarathustra
